The number of people out of work in the Canary Islands fell slightly in March and continues the downward trend recorded in recent times.
Figures released by the Spanish Ministry of Employment show that 423 people fewer were on the jobless lists at the end of the month compared to February. The 0.3% fall leaves the total number of unemployed at 157,428. Signs of an upturn in key sectors are confirmed with the 1.8% fall recorded in March the construction industry in the islands.
The current jobless total is the lowest recorded for March since 2007, with the drop bucking the usual trend seen in the third month of the year, when the figures tend to rise in the Canaries
Over the last twelve months, the jobless figure has fallen by 7616, a drop of 4.6% compared to March 2024.
