Hotels in Lanzarote recorded not just the highest occupancy levels in the Canaries last year but also the highest increase in average room rates, according to a new study.

In a survey widely reported in local media, hotel market and investment analysts Colliers say that the average rate on the island rose by 10.8% compared to the previous year, reached 134 euros per night. The increase put Lanzarote just ahead of Tenerife, which recorded a rate rise of 10.6% although the actual nightly price, at 143 euros, was higher than Lanzarote’s. Of the islands, Fuerteventura saw the lowest rise, just 4% higher than in 2023.

In terms of occupancy the picture was quite similar across the main holiday islands (all with figures above 80%) and reflected the current solid state of the sector. Lanzarote’s occupancy rate fell marginally (down 0.4%) but still reached an overall 88% for the year, the highest in the Canaries. Gran Canaria hotels saw a healthy 2.5% increase in occupancy and ended 2024 at an overall 86% average, two percentage points ahead of Tenerife – unchanged at 84% – and the 82% posted by Fuerteventura, which witnessed a sizeable rise of almost 5% in average occupancy.
