Gran Canaria is readying to welcome the return of its prodigal son tomorrow when the hottest property in Spanish music takes to the stage in Las Palmas.

The capital’s football stadium has seen unprecedented logistics preparations in recent days for the gig by a superstar whose presence has seen hotel bookings skyrocket for the weekend.

23-year-old Pedro Luis Domínguez Quevedo, known universally as Quevedo on the music scene, is in the Canaries as part of his ‘Buenas Noches’ tour, which takes him later to cities such as Barcelona, Valencia and Malaga.

Quevedo emerged as a young rapper and reggaeton artist in 2000 and rose to stardom with his unique compositions and singing style, which has seen him collaborate with several household names, including a single with Ed Sheeran in 2022.  He has already notched up a host of No.1 hits in Spain and Latin America in his short career.

Although born in Madrid, the singer moved to Gran Canaria as a very young boy and sees himself very much as Canarian, so much so that he has publicly described Saturday’s homecoming concert as “the most important one in his life”.

The event is certainly one of the biggest ever staged in Las Palmas. The equipment for the eagerly-awaited concert filled 25 giant trailers and a support team of over 250 people is required for the big event, which will be powered by eleven generators.

Tens of thousands of fans of the music idol are expected to fill the Gran Canaria stadium for the concert, with many likely to follow a social media call to “turn the venue yellow” by dressing in the colour traditionally associated with the island and its football team.
