UD Las Palmas will face Andorra in the first game of the 2025-26 season, the fixture list for which has just been released.

The Gran Canaria side were relegated in May after a dismal campaign in Spain’s top flight and are preparing to adjust to life in the 2nd Division as of next month, a new situation that is already bringing major changes in personnel.

Andorra are also having to adjust, although in their case it is a positive one as they have just gained promotion to the second tier after winning their playoff final against Ponferradina a fortnight ago. The club from the tiny principality in the Pyrenees between Spain and France is owned by Gerard Piqué, the Barcelona and Spain legend, who also spent four years at Manchester United (2004-2008).

Las Palmas, who begin pre-season training next week, at least have the luxury of making their debut at home, with the Andorra game scheduled for the weekend of 16-17 August. Next up in August for the Canarians after Piqué’s side will be Cordoba (away) and Malaga (home).

Meanwhile, possible player movements continue to be talking points at the club. The departure of Moleiro to Villarreal for 16 million euros has alleviated some of the financial pressure and the club coffers could be boosted further if defender Mika Mármol moves to Girona, although the Catalan side’s initial offer has been rejected and they have been told to pay his full release clause of 10 million euros.

However, Marmol has already made clear that he wants to continue to play in the top flight next season and, with just one year of his contract remaining, a compromise deal with Girona may be reached rather than face the prospect of him leaving for free next summer.
