A Tenerife animal sanctuary has hit the local headlines with its public appeal to recover five old sheep stolen from its premises a few days ago.
Tenerife Horse Rescue Sustainable Animal Sanctuary turned to social media at the weekend to denounce the theft of the five sheep on the night of 4 July from its premises near the TF1 motorway in Arico.
Although the sanctuary is primarily horse-focused, it is also home to a wide range of abandoned animals rescued from all over Tenerife, including, dogs and cats, birds, goats and more.
The sanctuary is well known for its sustainable approach, including using solar power for its electricity, hating water using horse manure and converting all food waste into compost. According to its website, it is “entirely built from recycled materials and clay”.
The five stolen sheep are described as “two beige, one black, one white and one white thick wool”. In its ‘Please Help us Find our Sheep’ plea, it stresses that the sheep are old and castrated and are of no use to anyone but they are “part of the sanctuary family”, so much so that a 1000 euro reward is offered for their safe return.
The publication of the plea has already generated suggestions to the authorities such as the use of drones to overfly the area to detect where the sheep are being kept since they were stolen.
