A Russian who offered his services as a vet in north Tenerife has been released on bail pending his trial for practising without the required licence.
The activities of the 46-year-old Russian came to the attention of the authorities after a formal complaint from the official College of Veterinary Surgeons, which had detected frequent announcements on social media in which he advertised his services since last October.
Police say he practised in unlicensed premises at his home in Garachico and also conducted visits to clients to carry out interventions such as vaccinations and even sterilisations which were performed without the appropriate hygiene guarantees, thus putting the health of the animals at risk.
The false vet was arrested just over a week ago and charged with providing veterinary care and treatment without being qualified or registered to do so. After an appearance before a local judge this week, he was released on bail but ordered to remain in Tenerife until his trial takes place later this year.
